Again you guys have to fall back on "What if the company did something really bad! Nyer!" Yeah, there are a lot of bizarre hypocritical "Steam good, Origin EVIL SATAN GET AWAY" attitudes out there. I absolutely don't understand you feigning (because you are feigning it, right?) puzzlement that anyone could be okay with Steam or other such services. That's all fine their choice, use it or don't. I even understand people who have a strong ideological opposition to DRM not liking it.
I completely understand people who aren't as lucky with internet providers, or need to be away from the internet a lot for whatever reason, not wanting to use Steam. It doesn't prevent me from doing anything I want to do, it doesn't harm me in any way. So there's no reason for me not to be okay with Steam. Thing is, I have a good, constant internet connection, so that's just not an issue.
The only real potential downsides, that I see, to using Steam are that I can't resell my games, which I've practically never done anyway, and I need to be online.unless I switch to offline mode.so I need to be online sometimes, at least. I don't need a reason why something's okay rather, everything is okay unless there's a reason it isn't. If it's any other service, it's bad? WTF?īecause my morality isn't a whitelist, it's a blacklist. The same people ignore the fact Steam does the exact same thing.
Remember when we first got Gamers for Windows Live and Origin? People hated them so much that GfWL was abandoned for a while (and heavily modified when it returned), and Origin has changed a lot. And somehow, people are ok with having steam forced upon us? In truth, steam doesn't do anything other similar servies do at least as good.
Some say it's because you can have all your games in one place, and you can download them as many times as you want - ignoring the fact you can do that in all the other online stores as well. Some say it's the community, but that doesn't explain why they ignore other similar communities. Some say steam has good offers and discounts, yet every time I find the same, or even better, offer in another online or offline store. Either use steam, or don't play the game.Īnd how can people possibly be ok with this bullshit? I have yet to hear a single good reason why. Even if you bought it on another identical service like gamersgate or direct2drive, you are still forced to use steam. Hell, even if you bought a physical copy in a store, you are stuck using steam. It doesn't matter if you bought it on steam, or if you bought it somewhere else. It doesn't matter if it's online multiplayer or offline single-player. Now try to play any of them - even just one - without using steam. Even worse, most people are somehow ok with it. The reason is quite simple: Steam is forced down our throats, and there's nothing we can do about it. In fact, I hate it so badly that I'd rather not play PoE at all, than be stuck playing it thourgh Steam.
